  • Who's Who In Ritter Service h Short Sketches of Men Who Are Making Ritter History n G. RAY POWERS, General Bookkeeper Mr. G. Eay Powers was born October 14, 1883 in Union County, Ohio. He received his early education in the county schools and at the High School at Mil- ford Center, Ohio. During the summer of 1904 he took a stenographic course at Bliss Business College, Columbus, Ohio, and in October of that year entered the employ of Arnold, Morton & Irvine, lawyers, as stenographer. In May, 1905, he accepted position of Assistant to Pay Roll Clerk in W. M. Ritter Lumber Company office at its Dry Fork Mill in West Virginia. He was transferred in October, 1905, to position of Pay Roll Clerk at Blackey, Va., and in May, 1917, to a similar post at Mortimer, North Carolina. In February, 1912, he was appointed Superintendent at the Hazel Creek operation at Proctor, North Carolina, serving there until February, 1913, when he went to Maben, West Virginia, to take charge of office, and in July, 1914, was made Auditor of all pay roll offices in Virginia and West Virginia. He has been filling his present position at the Columbus office—t hat of General Bookkeeper, since April, 1917. Mr. Powers has an admirable equipment for his particular position. He is peculiarly endowed with a remarkable memory, being able to answer many questions pertaining to the most intricate accounts without looking up the recorded details. He has a keen insight into all of the Company's accounting problems, thoroughly understanding the complete system in use. He is familiar with the statistical records, and furnishes much information to the statistical department. He is an earnest, accurate worker, and it has always been characteristic of him from the time he commenced as a payroll man down to the present, to have all of his work up to date. His motto is "Do it now." In addition, his even temper, pleasing personality, and willingness to co-operate, make it a pleasure to go to him for assistance. Mr. Powers was married, September 15th, 1907, to Miss Minnie Lee Maynard of Pikeville, Kentucky. They have one son, Ray, aged eleven years. Three
