Zebulon Weaver (1872-1948) was a lawyer and U.S. Representative from western North Carolina. He was a member of the North Carolina Park Commission and was involved in the land acquisition process that went towards establishment of the Great Smoky Mountain National Park and development of the Blue Ridge Parkway. This correspondence between Weaver and J. Eakin Ross focuses on employment opportunities in the Smoky Mountain National Park. Following are brief summaries of each of the letters: Zebulon Weaver to J. Ross Eakin, August 2, 1932 In this letter Weaver queries Eakin, Superintendent of Smoky Mountains National Park, regarding employment opportunities and the process of securing employment in the park on behalf of some interested candidates. J. Ross Eakin to Zebulon Weaver, August 3, 1932 In this letter Eakin explains to Weaver that currently the policy with regards to offering employment was to exhaust all labor living in the park area before hiring outsiders.
