  • 1 Jet ^.^rtS^r- j^try CASENBURG ""*X* HIKE SOPEirVISO'R—' NOVEMBER 12 CHILHOWEE MOUNTAIN, DUPONT SPRINGS TO MILLSTONE GAP No program of hikes is complete unless it includes a hike somewhere along the Chilhowee Mountain. The favorite spot is proven to be Dupont Springs because of its rugged nature, inspiring views and comparatively easy access. This year we will v;sit this more or less familiar "old-time" resort; and for those who liKe new scenes a jaunt up the mountain to Millstone Gap is planned. ,. The new memorial Park highway will enable us to eliminate many miles of formerly bad ■winding roads, for Cusick, where it meets the new Maryville to Sevierville road, is only a short distance from Reagantown where we leave the cars. Going up the steep trail, the jumbled masses of rocks that have broken from the cliffs above, are interesting. Some may wish to loiter and "botanize" around Dupont Springs instead ot taking the five or six miles hike along the ridge and back. If so they will find many interesting rock formations and from the ridge top the most Perfect panoramic view of the entire Smoky range anywhere to be seen. Those of the restless fraternity will take an indistinct, tho easy, trail westward through a deciduous forest, past many vantage points from which to view the seemingly flat slate knobs and the really flat farm lands to the north and 59
