  • There are three or four high peaks which, with the exception of a few dead chestnut trees, are] completely bare. They are covered with grass and are very pleasant places to rest and regain one's breath. One of the highest points along this trip is Collins Creek Bald, often called Nettles Creek Bald by some of the mountain people. This peak is 5172 feet high and covered with grass. The lowest point on this trip is Tuskee Gap, named by the Indians. We will climb right out of Tuskee Gap and onto Newton Bald. This will j tell about your smoking as it is a rather steep ascent. Newton Bald is a man made bald, the timber having been cut some years ago. The vegetation is growing back, but it has not grown large enough at the present to obstruct the views in all directions. Here is one of the best views of the state line peaks that one can find anywhere in the North Carolina area of the Smoky Mountains. Just come along and make this hike with us and you will never be sorry; but you will regret it for a year if you don't. Leave Dixie System at 7:00 a. m. for an early start. Bring canteen, food for one meal and lantern. Total hiking distance eighteen miles, al- tho' we can shorten the hike to suit our inclination. Leaders: GEORGE K. PRESTON. JR.—Park Office, Gatlinburg.
