  • driver who will take the other four to the starting point, then have the car at the other end of the line ready to pick up the workers at the end of the trip. This may permit the drivers hiking part but not all of the way. Of the other four, one should carry the pack containing lunch for the whole party, and plenty of water. And, don't forget that it takes at least twice as much water to satisfy a worker as it does one who is merely walking along. There should be at least two quarts of water for each member of the party, unless it is a rainy or extra cold day. The pack-carrier also nails up the markers wherever needed. His task should be rotated among the party at regular intervals. So much for the working part. There are other interesting features of this trip. The views from along the route are superb. From Cheoah Bald, Swim Bald and other points there are marvelous views of the Great Smokies. There are glimpses of Lake Santeetlah. Then there is that grandstand view of Nantahala Gorge and the billowing mountains which lie to the south of the Gorge. It is certainly worth putting out a lot of hard labor for the privilege of seeing such panoramas as are presented at every point along this route. Except that we should start at 1:00 o'clock Saturday afternoon, little definite instruction can be given in advance for the first day. The place for spending the night and other details will have to be determined after we know how many are going and what the weather is. It may be that we can spend the night in Tapoco or at Wes- ser—or we can camp out on the shore of beautiful Lake Santeetlah if the weather permits. More details may be given in the card to be mailed to members a few days prior to the trip. SUMMARY: Leave Dixie System at 1:00 p. m. Take food for three (or four) meals, and you'll probably want a little extra after a hard morning's axe-swinging. And don't forget to 18
