  • There are thousands of acres of such Forests within a few hours drive of Knoxville, which are also our heritage. What restrictions and how rigid are the National Park regulations? How shall we conduct ourselves in these government controlled lands? We believe that any Hiking Club member or other person who will observe the spirit of the Club's Code of Ethics and two other Park regulations will have no trouble in any government lands. One of these two regulations states: "Until such time (when development is undertaken) no camping of any sort will be permitted except by special permit of the Superintendent or his authorized representatives to hikers for overnight accommodations." The other regulation governs fishing and should be read carefully by anyone planning a trip for that purpose. A bulletin of General Information containing the rules and regulations of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park may be secured by writing the Superintendent at Gatlinburg, Tenn. Hiking Club members particularly, should familiarize themselves with this bulletin and the regulations that they might, at any time, pass this information on to others. We may be assured that the National Park Service is competent to maintain "our mountains" inviolate, and yet available to the greatest possible number of people for use and enjoyment.
