Then go to Rutland. The Sixth Appalachian Trail Conference will be held about July 1st, at Rutland, Vermont, fhis is a conference of delegates of practically every out-door club in eastern America to discuss the progress of work on a 2000 mile trail, starting at Mt. Katahdin in Maine this trail follows along the crest of the Appalachian Mountain chain to Mt. Oglethorpe in Georgia. The Part the Smoky Mountains Hiking Club has in tjus gigantic project is to clear and mark about 1^0 miles of trail through the entire Smokies and southward to the Nantahala Gorge. T East Tennesseans should not feel lonely there, the Green Mountain range, from which Vermont gets its name, extends through the center of the state from the Massachusetts border to the Canadian boundary line. Within the boundaries °t the state there are 500 peaks with altitudes exceeding 2000 feet, the highest being Mt. Mans- »eld 4406 feet.
