GEO. S. POWELL, DR. C. P. AMBLER, President. Sec. and Treas. \ 7 %\)t Appalachian JlMtonal $arft Association . 4 ... $. 3D. Bo* 384. % astjetJille, JI3, C, September 10th, 1901 To / —The President and h^embers of the Appalachian Mat ion'1 Park Ass'n: k Following the last annual meeting held in A.sheville on February 5th, 1901 your Secretary complied with the instructions of the meeting and notified such gentlemen as were elected to pssitions of their election. Since that meeting the Executive committee have held bvit two meetings: viz, February 27th and June 22nd. But two meeting were held for the reason that since Congress adjourned last year there has been no pressing work which required frequent meetings of your Kxecu- tive Committee. The interest of those who have given their time and attention to our cause has in no way adated and we now have to report that ( our cause has brighter prospects than ever. At the date of the last meeting we had a paid up membership of 153, while those who had signified their willingness to assist us but had never furnished funds numbered 384, To-day we have a paid up membership of 163 and a mailing-list of 914 (including papers). Since our annual report was made we have not had much literature printed but have continued to send Out, a» the occasion arose, —-1—

Appalachian National Park Association secretary Ambler drafted this memorandum to the president and members of the association. Chase P. Ambler (1865-1932) was a founding member and long-time secretary of the association. He reports that there are currently 163 paid memberships, a mailing list of 914 addresses, and a file of newspaper clippings numbering 960. The memorandum goes on to describe a July 1901 visit to North Carolina headed by Secretary of Agriculture James Wilson (1835-1920) to assess sites for a possible national park and forest reserve.
