  • Camp near Nashville Tenn Dec 7th 1863 Dear Wife I embrace the present opportunity of addressing A few lines to you as I have an opportunity Of sending them by hand. I am well and harty (sic, hearty) I am fleshery (sic, fleshier?) than you ever saw me Our Brothers are all well Sol has got near about well he does as much duty as any of us but he is home sick which is the worst of Sick the rest of us is doing tolerable well, I have bin (sic) home sick several times since I left home but I have concluded that it is all nonsence (sic) to get sick about home unless it would do some good I would give all most (sic) any thing to see you and the children But I don’t expect to see you before next spring It is allmost (sic) impossible for an East Tennessean To get a furlow (sic) and will be til Tennessee is Entirely clear of Rebs but I think that time is Close at hand. Martha I received a letter from you Dated the 24th of Sept I answered it and sent you twenty dollars by the bearer I also send you twenty five dollars by the bearer of this use it as You think best I will still continue to send you
