Western Carolina University
Civil War in Southern Appalachia
The Civil War, fought between the Union and the Confederate States of America, occurred from 1861 to 1865. This collection of items related to that conflict includes correspondence that dates to the earliest years of the war. Troops from western North Carolina kept in touch with family members by exchanging frequent letters to and from the war front. These letters are searchable by family name, regiment, and county.
