  • J. A. HOLMES, State Geologist. NORTH CAROLINA GEOLOGICAL SURVEY, CHAPEL HILL, N. C. < August 23, 1901, Dr. C. P. Ambler, Secy. & Treas. Appalachian Park Ass., Asheville, IT. C. yp Dear Sir: I am just in receipt of your letter of August 17th accompanied by check for §37.50. The arrangement which you have made is entirely satisfactory to me. If the other subscribers do not come to time and in that way help to remove the amount which you have advanced, let me know and I shall be glad to contribute further. With regard to the Park legislation in Virginia and South Carolina, I have just forwarded to the Governor of Virginia letters which I had received last February from members of the committee to which this matter was referred in both the House and the Senate, which letters stated that the bill as well as the resolutions concerning the Park had passed both Houses and I have asked the cooperation of the Governor in settling the matter definitely. As to the South Carolina bill and resolutions, both were certainly passed on the last day of the session as I spent that day in Columbia watching the matter through. I will also take the matter up with some people in Columbia and see. whether or not th§se bills were properly signed by the Governor or whether by soi e hitch they hay have been left out at the last moment. Yours very trulv* State Geologist.
