  • Waynesville, N. Carolina March 14th, 1863 Cap’n Enclosed you will find a list of deserters names, which you will proceed at once to arrest and forward to this office, if they can be found in your co. if you should find any names in the list which men are not in your co. you will send up a list of their names to this office, making out a distinct report of each man’s case. Also of all the men you fail to arrest. When you arrest a man, send with him his name. The report of all the men you fail to arrest must be separate from each other. Make out a list of other names, and state oposit his name what has become of him. These men must be rationed from the “tith” when on duty. [Illegible] recep’t will be fwd the “Tax paper”. Act promptly in this matter as I want to make out my report. I know it is bad to take the men from home, (I mean you do but this matter must attended too. [illegible] Very respy L. H.
