  • (3) Old LeConte Trail. Starts at Cherokee Orchard and follows LeConte Creek by way of Rainbow Falls. Distance to lodge on LeConte, 4.1 miles. Hike 0.7 mile farther to Myrtle Point. (4) Bear Pen Hollow Trail. Starts at Bear Pen Gap, on Tenn. #71, and goes straight up gap, coming out on Balsam Point of LeConte. It then goes to Cliff Top. Round trip, 8 miles. First part of trail steep, but not exceptionally rough. (5) Alum Cave Trail (see. also. Alum Cave). Start? at Grass Patch on 'Tenn. #71 and goes by Alum Cave, over Echo Point, and up south side of LeConte to lodge. Round trip, 6.6 miles. Trail relatively smooth but extremely steep. (6) Trillium Trail. Drive from Gatlinburg to Roarin' Fork schoolhouse. Trail starts here and goes by Clabo home, last house on way to LeConte. Trail then skirts along Roarin' Fork to Trillium Gap and then to lodge on LeConte. Director Horace M. Albright suggested the name, Trillium Gap, after seeing the profusion of trillium on this trail. Distance from Roarin' Fork schoolhouse to top of LeConte. approximately 6 miles. It is possible to go by horseback on this traifto Trillium Gap. Love, Mt. : On State line. It is the northeastern in a triad of peaks of which Clingman's Dome is the central and highest, and Mt. Buckley is the western. See Clingman's Dome. Mini.us, Mt.: In Tenn., northwest of Indian Gap. (1) From Newfound Gap. Park cars at Gap and follow Appalachian Trail over shoulder of Mingus. For return trip, one may follow old mountain road past Balsam Lodge and back to Newfound Gap. Distances: Newfound Gap over Mingus to Indian Gap, 1.4; from Indian Gap around road to Newfound Gap, 2.0. Trail to Indian Gap steep. (2) Road Prong 'Frail. Begins at Road Prong, near Tenn. #71, and follows route of old Indian road made by Thomas Legion. (Road is now mere footpath.) Trail passes 52
