  • Trail climbs Forrester Ridge and follows it to Haw Gap Jenkins Ridge. Trail from Haw Gap as in (2). About| 7 miles. Class B Trail. Sterling, Mt.: On Mt. Sterling Ridge, in eastern part| of park. (1) Cataloochee Creek Trail. Drive up Cataloochee Creek to mouth of Pretty Hollow Creek and leave car. Trail j follows Pretty Hollow Creek to Pretty Hollow Gap on Mt Sterling Ridge and then goes northeast along ridge to Mt Sterling. About 5.5 miles. Class B 'Trail; fair. (2) Little Cataloochee Creek Trail. Drive up Little Cataloochee Creek to mouth of Andy Branch and bike up branch to Rough Ridge, to Mt. Sterling Ridge and to Mt Sterling. About 4 miles. Class B 'Trail; good, but steep in places. (3) Big Creek Trail. From Mt. Sterling P.O. follow] Big Creek to Swallow Fork. Route follows Swallow Fork to Mt. Sterling Ridge and northeast to Mt. Sterling. About 10.5 miles. (4) Mt. Sterling Ridge 'Trail. Follow ridge from Mt Sterling P.O. to Mt. Sterling. About 5 miles. Thomas Ridge Trail: Class A Trail. It extends 13.5 miles from Smokemont, N. C, to Luftee Gap. From Smokemont it climbs 2,940 ft. in 4.5 miles to an elevation of 5,142 ft. on Newton Bald. From this point, to the end near State line, trail traverses Thomas Ridge which was named for Col. William Holland Thomas (1805-1803), native of Haywood Co., N. C. Thunderhead: On State line at junction of Defeat Ridge and main divide. (1) See Appalachian Trail. (2) Bote Mountain Trail. Leave cars near Girl Scout camp in Walker's valley, Tenn. Trail starts at confluence of Middle and West Prongs of Little River and goes along West Prong to Laurel Creek, and then to Bote Mountain which it follows to Spence Field on main divide; then goes 56
