  • Administration Here is a brief look at the men who are helping to keep Western Carolina University growing. Thanks goes out from the Western Carolinian to some of the people who helped us recover from the fire that destroyed our offices last Winter. Also is included a brief rundown of Deans of the various schools on campus. Western Carolina University was founded in August ol 1889. For 20 years starting in 1905 it was Cullowhee Normal and Industrial School, until it was changed to Cullowhee State Normal School. From 1929 until 1953, we were called Western Carolina Teachers College. Western Carolina College was the title we bore until 1967, when Western Carolina University came into being. In 1972 we became a constituent institution of the University of North Carolina. As you can probably already tell, the changes, once set in motion, are contiuing to help Western grow. I Vice-Chancellor for Student Development, Dr. Glenn Stillion received hisM. A. from the University of New Mexico and his Ph.D. from Florida State University. Dr. H. F. Robinson, Chancellor of Western Carolina University, received his Bachelor of Science degree from North Carolina State University in Raleigh and his Doctorate degree from the University of Nebraska.
