Physics A B.S. degree in Physics can open up intriguing job fields for interested students. Physics majors often continue on to graduate school to become engineers. Other job fields open to Physics majors are work in computer centers, air pollution control, and research & development. Math The Math Department, with B.S. degrees in Computer Science, Math, and Math Education, offers one of the most wide-open job and career fields available. According to Charles Martin, Department Head, there are currently 13 jobs for every graduate. The Computer Science major prepares one for teaching and working in math-related fields, and there is a shortage of math teachers that is reaching almost phenomenal rates. Martin also noted that there were 25 vacancies in the Coop program last year, where valuable experience can be gained. Chemistry The Chemistry Department, with B.S. and B.A. degrees, can prepare a student for work in many fascinating fields. For students who are Chemistry majors, there is an almost unlimited job field. Chemistry majors work in industrial, governmental and institutional research, chemical production, sales, marketing, clinical chemistry, industrial hygiene and safety, forensics, and in the teaching field. A B.S.B.A. in Finance teaches students how to deal with corporate financial decisions, investment analysis and financial management. If you are interested in Real Estate, you can learn brokerage and management, property and estates, and professional sellings. The Western Carolinian is Western Carolina University's student-run newspaper. The paper was published as the Cullowhee Yodel from 1924 to 1931 before changing its name to The Western Carolinian in 1933.
