  • Feb. 21 1933 Dear Leonard Except for Jane’s good letter, It was a long time since any news had reached us from Takoma Park, until your letter came. My birthday seems To be the time for the family to wake up. Lansing sent two letters – Cornelia + Susie sent the family news. The former mostly about the bank situation, or rather the local conditions caused by the banks closing. The Moores managed fairly well; “Carleton had a few dollars left from his Atlantic City expenses” & this added to the wealth of all other members of the family totaled $10 -. Also their credit was good at the Stores. Ernest Wheeler had been trading at cash & carry stores which give no credit, the other stores gave no credit to new customers & the Wheelers mustered just Six cents between them! Guess they lived on their creditable friends until the storm blew over.
