  • loss 30000 if these reports bee true I am in hopes it will bee of grate help towards gaining our peace it’s the general opinion here if our men is victorious in these fights in the west that those will bee & general movement in Kentucky some thinks we will go thare I don’t think thare is any danger of the enemy coming through the gap it looks like 2 or 3 hundred cold hold this gap if thousands was to attact them Charles I don’t expect peace will maid soon it looks like a slim chance for peace I think thare will bee a grate deal of hard fighting [don] this friend Charles help my family to continue & manage to get along all you can for I have no idea of getting home soon but I am still in hopes I will get to see my family & friends one more time on this earth I must close by asking you to write soon & often direct your letters to Cumberland Gap E.
