Navy Department Pers 530a-pak BUREAU OF NAVAL PERSONNEL * 261 92 22 w. 7 July 1945 Mrs. Stephen John Owens Webster North Carolina My dear Mrs. Owens: - There are enclosed papers apparently prepared by your son, Samuel Robert Owens, Torpedoman second class, U. S. Navy, while a prisoner of war in the Philippines. They were found by the Army on Corregidor following the liberation of that area. The Navy Department joins you in the hope that our prisoners of war in Japanese hands will soon be liberated. Their faith while imprisoned and steadfastness to their country's ideals will never be forgotten by the American people. By direction of Chief of Naval Personnel. Sincerely yours, H. B. ATkINSON Commander, USNR Officer in Charge Casualty Section Encls. (HW)
