  • November 28, 2001 NEWS WESTERN CAROLINIAN 3 '^ Pu.S.H: November 13 At 2:15 p. m., officers discovered a brush fire at the greenhouse caused when the exhaust system of a truck came in contact with dry leaves. Cullowhee Fire Department was summoned and extinguished the fire. November 14 At 9:00 a. m, officers assisted the State Bureau of Investigation with contacting a student in connection with the investigation of a sexual assault which had been reported west of Bryson City. At 10:25 p. m., officers conducted a narcotics investigation on the 2nd floor of Benton Hall. Officers found evidence of the priorpresence of drugs, but no chargeable offenses. At 11:19 p. m, a student on the 9th floor of Scott reported that a male entered the restroom while she was in the shower. A similar incident had occurred while her roommate was in the shower. The male was identified and banned from the floor pending further investigation. November 15 At 9:45 a. m., UC staff reported two non-students sleeping in the building. Officers found the subjects and banned one from campus and the other from the UC. At 8:55 p. m., Housing staff reported the odor of marijuana on the 1 st floor of Benton. Two suspects were interviewed and referred to Student Affairs for burning incense. At 12:17am., officers responded to the 8th floor of Walker where an intoxicated male had knocked the front from a water fountain and then was belligerent toward Housing staff who approached him about it The incident is referred to Student Affairs. At 1:15 a. m., a student found a vehicle in the Walker A lot with the window broken. Checking the area, officers found one additional vehicle which had a broken window. At 3:22 a m., officers responded to a fight on the 4th floor of Scott between two friends. The incident is referred to Student Affairs. November 16-18 On 11/16, Traffic Office staff reported a fraudulent registration where an upperclassman had registered a vehicle for a freshman. Parking privileges of both students were revoked and fines initiated At 10:16 p. m. on 11/16, officers found two female students consuming alcohol on the sidewalk beside Centennial Drive. They were asked to pour out the alcohol and referred to Student Affairs. At 11:55 a m. on 11/16, afemale student in Scott reported that while she was taking a shower on the 7th floor, she noticed that a male was looking in to the stall through a small rip in the curtain. The subject could not be located At 12:05 a. m. on 11/17, officers received a report that a plate glass window at Benton had been broken for the second time in two days. Officers cited a male student in the area for intoxicated and disruptive and underage possession of alcohol. At 2:50 a m on 11/17, officers stopped a speeding vehicle and warned the driver. During the stop, they noticed a female student passed out in the front seat When she was unresponsive, they summoned WCU EMS who transported the student to Harris Regional for treatment At 9:00 a m, on 11/18, Housing staff reported that someone hadbroken a glass on a vending machine and stolen some of the products from inside between 11/17 and 11/18. November 19 Astudentcharged with possession of marijuana and paraphernalia on October 18 pled guilty to possession of marijuana and the other charge was dismissed He was placed on probation for one year and ordered to pay court costs. At 4:45 p. m., employees at Health Services reported an upset student had (Med in a threatening manner. Officers investigated and contacted the student to warn him about his behavior. The incident is referred to Student Affairs. A male student charged with disorderly conduct, drunk and disruptive, and resisting arrest on September 29 failed to appear in District Court in Sylva Officers served an order for arrest on the student in Scott Hall and served that charge at 12:55 am November 20 At 9:04 a. m., an employee in Natural Science reported the theft of a Power Mac CPU from a cart on the first floor. The investigation is continuing. The theft occurred between 11/15 and 11/19. November 21-24 At 10:20 a m. on 11/21, officers arrested a male non-student for auto larceny in connection with the theft of a Honda Prelude from Reynolds on September 24. The subject had been extradited from Florida A female student reported that she was sexually assaulted at a party off campus and also in her room in Helder on September 21. The investigation is continuing. At 7:45 p. m. on 11/21, officers checked a suspicious vehicle at Reid and found several male non-students who had been skateboarding in the area The subjects were warned about the skateboarding policy. November 25 At3:15am., officers foundadead animal carcass in front of Stillwell and notified Facilities Management November 26 At 1:20 a m., while conducting an investigation of a disturbance, officers cited a male student in Harrill for possession of drug paraphernalia and underage possession of alcohol. WCU Bookstore ATTENTION STUDENTS!! DO YOU HAVE RENTED TEXTBOOKS? WCU Bookstore would like to remind all undergraduates to return rented textbooks before leaving campus. All rental books must be returned on/or before January 3. 2002. to avoid paying a late fee. Students who return books January 4 - January 23. 2001 will be charged a $20.00 late fee. To avoid paying any penalty for your books, they must be returned no later than Junuary 3. 2002. See the Undergraduate catalog for more information or call the WCU bookstore at 828/227-7346. Remember It is your responsibility to return your rental books on time. Remember, you must purchase books that are damaged by water, dirt, have missing -ental number page, or missing pages 3. Make sure each textbook is marked off of your rental card when you return your jooks. 4. When you return all of your books, make sure you are given your rental card to ;lose your account.
