A bronze plaque on a high terrace wall of the memorial bears the following inscription: "FOR THE PERMANENT ENJOYMENT OF THE PEOPLE This Park Was Given One-HaM By The Peoples And States Of North Carolina And Tennessee And By The United States Of America And One-Half In Memory Of Laura Spelman Rockefeller By The Laura Spelman Rockefeller Memorial Founded By Her Husband John D. Rockefeller,"

This 1946 booklet, “The Great Smoky Mountains National Park: North Carolina [and] Tennessee,” includes 36 illustrated pages with hand-colored photographs. Produced six years after the park was established, the booklet features many of the park’s key sites, including the Skyline, Newfound Gap loop-over, Chimney Tops, Clingmans Dome, and many waterfalls and natural sites. The booklet includes a map and a few images of Cherokee people who live on the neighboring Qualla Boundary.
