  • Page 2 News September 9,1993 Western Carolinian Officers respond to fire alarms, drug possession August 24: A student reported his parking decal stolen from his vehicle at 930 a.m. A student complained that two male non-students were selling magazines door-to-door in Scott in violation of University policy at 555pm. August 25: A caller reported that a male student was directing traffic at Dodson crosswalk at 150pm. Officers counseled and released the subject. Two students reported receiving suspicious telephone calls between 12:55 am and 1:26am. August 26: Officers checked three suspicious males in the Fieldhouse Lot at 10:25p.m. Officers arrested a male student for DWI after observing the student drive across the lawn between Belk and Leath- erwood. Intoxilyzer results were .11%. Officers assisted a distraught female student near Walker at 2:22am. August 27-29: Officers found a vehicle which had been damaged behind Scott at 6am. Two students reported being contacted by a suspicious male at the Cash Points machine and in the Walker A Lot. A student reported that her car window was broken while the car was parked near Hoey between 11:15am and 3pm. A faculty member reported that a fan was stolen from room 391 in Belk between 5pm and 10am. Officers responded to a domestic disturbance in Buchanan between a resident and her parents at 2:40pm. Students in Music/English reported that a female was being harassed by her former boyfriend at 855pm. Officers responded and banned the male non- student from campus. Officers transported a student to the hospital for treatment of depression at the request of her parents at 2:25 am. August 3(h Officers impounded a vehicle which had been repeatedly parked in the patient parking spaces at Smoky Mountain Mental Health. A student worker reported individuals inside the Belk Building. Officers found a staff member present. August 31: A student reported mat his vehicle was damaged while it was parked near the south wing of Helder between 4pm and 7pm. A student reported that his vehicle was scratched while it was parked in the Stadium lot between August 30 at 3pm and August 31 at 4pm. September 1: Officers assisted an FBI agent in conducting a pre-employment investigation on a former student. Officers investigated a traffic accident on Centennial Drive in front of Pressley's Barber Shop at 2pm. September 2: A student reported that her car was damaged by a hit and run driver at the Old Warehouse Lot between 7:45am and 5:30pm. Officers warned two male non-students about the campus skateboarding policy at the Alumni Tower at 2:19 pm. A travelling preacher began preaching inside Dodson Cafeteria at 11:45 am. Officers advised him of the campus policies on such activities and escorted him outside where he preached and argued with a crowd of as many as 75 students for approximately three hours. Officers impounded a vehicle which had been parked ilegally in the Administration Building lot for several days at 1150am. Officers confiscated a bayonet from a male student and advisedhim of the law on weapons on campus at 11:40pm September 3: Officers responded to a fire alarm at Harrill at 1:15am which was caused by someone spraying air freshener in the detector head on the 4th and 8th floors. September 4: Officers responded to two moisture alarms in the computer center in Forsyth. No damage was detected. September 5: Officers responded to a fire alarm in Walker Hall caused by smoke from food that was burned in a microwave oven at 4:28am Officers resonded to smoke alarm in the laundry room at Leatherwood caused by students who struck the detector head by accident at 1:48pm. September 7: A student reported that his bicycle seat was stolen while the bike was parked in front of Harrill between Monday and Tuesday. A vehicle fire was reported in front of Walker Dorm. The fire was extinguished by a Jackson County deputy who was passing by the area when the fire started. Officers warned three male students about the rollerblading policy at 1150pm. One student who had been warned before was referred to Student Development for disciplinary action.
