In foreign affairs, foreign aid would be mostly economic rather that military. Arlan Andrews, the Libertarian gubernatorial candidate, has some interesting ideas about education. As governor, he wnuld encourage church and private schools so that parents would have control of location and curriculum. Tax rebates would be given for having no children in public school, a move designed to reduce both enrollment and expense. Lyndon Larouche is the US Labor Party candidate. Wayne Evans is his running mate. Larouche admits that he is a Marxist but he doesn't look anything like Lenin if that word scares you. Besides, Larouche has stated that the economic system which he has worked out is essentially based on capitalism. Larouche sees the world in very serious economic- trouble and perhaps on the brink of world war. He claims that the source of the problem is that many of the small, underdeveloped nations which are heavily in debt to the US would like to declare bankruptcy. However, Larouche sees our nation controlled by a group of powerful and dangerous international bankers which is based, he says, in New York. According to Larouche, this group could only stand to lose if the small countries declared bankruptcy. Therefore, they see their profit and power in serious danger and would go to any extreme, even the use of atomic weapons, lo preserve their financial empire. Larouche claims to have a system thai could escape depression and do so without war. oped countries developing industries of their own. Each nation would concentrate on the goods they best could produce and a profitable world trade would develop. Perhaps a major (law in Larouche's plan is that he believes that the Soviet Union would enter into competition with the U.S. in trading with these small nations. He believes that military competition would decline. He should hope that the Soviet Union sees it that way. Thomas Anderson is the American Party candidate and his running mate is Rufus Shackle- ford. H.E. "Chub" Seawcll is the American Party gubernatorial candidate. The American Party believes in problem-solving by returning to "moral. Christian and constitutional principles upon which this nation was founded." You guessed it. They're conservative all right. The American Party has a list of "no mores" which it would follow if it won the November election. These include: no more deficit financing, no more foreign aid, no more recognition of slave states, no more worthless paper currency, no more federal intervention in education and welfare, and no more membership in the United Nations. In foreign affairs, there would be no more helping the Communist countries. The foreign policy of the American Party would put America first. In economic affairs, the American Party favors a laissez-farre-type attitude teward business. The graduated income tax would be replaced by a uniform tax. A free market for jobs would be established. To fight inflation, American party spending. They stand against gun control and ERA. They are also against a big, interferring government. Thev call the ERA a devil's plan. The American Party is very heavy on morality and religion. If one does not like any of these candidates, then he still has no reason not to vote. There is still the write-in. Any American citizen over the age of 35 is eligible for the White House. To write in a candidate, le>ok for the little slots directly above the category of the office for which you are voting. If you are voting for governor and you want to write in a candidate, look at the column headed by a no. 90. There will be a small door above this number. Simply lift this opening and write the name of your choice on the slip of paper inside. The people at the courthouse in Sylva claim that there is a move in this state to write in the name of Eugene McCarthy. If you would like to write in McCarthy, you probably won't be alone. But remember that you can write in the name of anyone over 35 years of age. Also remember that you are voting in three separate races. One for president, one for state government and one for soil and conservation district supervisor, which is a non-partisan category. If you do not vote in all three categories, then the machine will not record your vote. We at the Western Carolinian hope that, with the peceding information in mind, you will vote Tuesday.
