Sams News Editor WCU's new Student Government Association (SGA) President Jonathan Rowe has made some changes since taking over the new position, including a newly designed Senate. The ideas are designed to allow for more student input concerning ideas for changes that SGA can make on campus. The new SGA Senate is composed of two-thirds elected senators and approximately one-third appointed by Rowe and his staff. "The goal of the new Senate is to increase optimism among the students on campus," Rowe stated. "It's to gather new ideas from all aspects of campus." The one third appointment will be given primarily to student organizations. These organizations were chosen primarily on the basis of their diversity and their influence on campus. These appointed seats will cover representation from African- Americans, international students, mature students and graduate students, among other groups. Spaces appointed to organizations only account for part of that one-third. Six appointed spaces are open for representatives of each college on campus, and another two are presidential or vice-presidential appointments. "In the future, these seats will go to other organizations that we show qualify," Rowe added. Applications are available on the door of the SGA offices on the second floor of the UC and are to be completed and turned in by Friday, September 3. On Tuesday, September 7, there will be a meeting con- k_>aC\.
