Amy’s story “How Pumpkintown Got Its Name” opens the show, talking about Billy Woodard and corn shucking in the Pumpkintown area of Jackson County. “Great is the Lord” accompanies the story. On Creative Corner, Doreyl talks with Betty Brown once again. This week Betty shares the story of her song “Smoky Mountain Memories,” and talks about her new album, Singing Appalachian Stories. “Smoky Mountain Memories” follows the interview. Amy’s guest on Stories of Mountain Folk is Ron Yount of Cullowhee, who talks about carving spirit faces in pine knots and his interest in other forms of woodcarving. The interview is followed by “How I Long to be in the Mountains” by Mountain Faith. On Stories of the Cherokee, Shawn talks about the history of the Cherokee Indian Fair and tells the Cherokee story “The Ballgame of the Birds and Animals.” Music is by Matthew Tooni. Judy’s guest on Down Another Road is Jack Wood, who was born in 1928 and grew up in Caney Fork. He shares some of his memories of Sylva. The interview is followed by “Green Pastures” by the Butterpats, and the show ends with “Lilies of the Field” by Jon Zachary.
