  • GEO. S. POWELL, President. DR. C. P. AMBLER, Sec. and Treas. Appalachian IMionaV t&arfc Association asbetlfUc, &, C, October 4th, 1901 P. jflD. TBoi 384. Mr, S, Wittkowsky, Charlotte, N, C, My dear Mr, Wittkowsky: - Your very kind favor of the 3rd inst with check for five dollars ($5.00) enolosed is reoeived. I was pleased to see that you had acted upon my suggestion and addressed a letter to Mr, Bellamy. If you can bring any influence to bear upon others and persuade them to also write to the Senators of other districts, particularly in adjoining states, it would certainly result to the good of our cause, Everything is progressing favorably and indications are that we will get favorable consideration at the coming session of Congress, The question is now where it really remains with the Southern Senators; If they will only act together and act as a unit the cause vri.ll go through without a dissenting voice. We have many Senators in the North who have already promised their support and the South will find that the North is perfectly willing to help in thms matter. If our Senators, however are luke-warm it will create a bad impression and of course we will fail. Thanking you for your very kind remittance and continued interest, I am, Yours very truly, P. S, We are writing personal letters to all our friends asking that they address their Senators at this time; mailing literature to all Senators and Representatives, have also written a large number of news paper and magazine articles and frequently send literature to news papers throughout eastern states.
