  • \ \ V ' P*; UNITED STAT DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIOR NATIONAL PARK SERVICE GREAT SMOKY MOUNTAINS NATIONAL PARK P.O.Box #555, laynesvllle.N.C. Feb.27,19?5 Hon.Zebulon leaver, Washington ,D.C . Dear Mr.Weaver, T received your letter of 4th Inst..and at a later date several itemsthat T had asked for-, H.P.4977,H.B. 11287,P.P.1089?,Public-No.268-69th CongressfS 407?) and Hearings on P.E. 1198"). I wish to thank you gar these items. • Trust that you will be on the lookout for other matter that we should have, I notice in the "Hearings on H.R.ll980"1hat you caPled attention to and had inserted in the record,a long letter from Horace Kephart in which he set out the desirability of the Smokies region for a national park. I tseems to me that this letter and the very pertinent facts set out in it must have had considerable weight in determining the location of the park as it was being-considered at that$ time. I an wondering if you have the original of this letter, and would consider the idea of letting us have it for the museum? Copuri^WMaterial Western Carolina University There is another itemj^^^^think we should have. That i§ the original of the declaration of the Rockafellow Foundation, agreeing to donate funds on the 50-50 basis of funds raised by the two states-North Carolina and Tennessee. I do not knolr how to go about getting hold of this document, but I think we should have it,don't you? Wonder if you can make a suggestion? I wish to say to you thap we are making some progress with the project. Have actually collected 400 or more objects, and have imieh more "In sight",that Is we are In line for It, and will get it at the proper time. For instance,Mr. Kephart\s library end so forth. George Massa' stuff,Dr.Ambler Collection and possibly $# the Late Thomas Price's collection. There is one other matter Jhat T wish to talk to you about. Of course you know about the "Ju^a Culla P.ock" over in Jackson County. T have been hearing about it ever since I came up here. But hsve never seen it.
