  • Camp Zollicoffer Ten Sept the 16 186[2] Dear Parents As L Tritt is going to start home to knight I thought I would write you afiew lines in anseer to yours of the 12 which was received wit gred pleasure I was glad to hear that you was well and doing the best you could I havent any thing of inte rest to write more than we are tollerable well at present I my self am not well I have the worst Cold that I Eaver had in my life and I Cough my self nearley to death but I hink [think] that I will be well in afiew day If I was just at home to help you seede and take fodd I would be so glad but you kno -w that it is not my fault I want you to do the bes you can for you self for I don’t know when I will get to come hom it is all that I can do to wait when I begin to think about home for I can hardly see the lines one my pape and you may guuess the cause Father if you havent soaled any sock I want you to have the hyest price that is going but what eaver you do dont sell any corn at any price for you will kneed it if my mare re eye is well I exspect that you had better sell he hur if you can for I think it doutful about the come –ing hom I wont you to write how eavrey thing is comeing one f if the mules has come home or not and if you hav sold my Cattle and for how mutch for I am ancious to know The weather is as warm now as it was in August Mother I will send my likeness to you and Father by Tritt S So I mus Close give Res spects to All the friends no more but Remaines your sone till Death N E & M A E [initials ?] T B Edmon

  • In a letter of September 16, 1862, Thomas Benton Edmonston writes to his parents about a severe cold he is experiencing and advising his parents on sale of corn and whether his cattle have been sold. He also advisies them to sell his mare as he will not be coming home soon.
