  • Sports Page 17 Cats Blow Homecoming They came out as though they were possessed. They went out like a football team that has only won one game this year and had just lost again. This time it was Homecoming and East Tennessee spoiled it by coming back from a 21-0 deficit to defeat the Cats 34-23. It started out so good. The Catamounts received the ball first and promptly drove downfield to score first on a touchdown fun by tailback Melvin Dorsey. When Western kicked off after the score, a rare play occurred. Dean Biasucci kicked the ball towards the corner of the field and the ETSU players could not get a hand on the ball before a Western player pounced on it. It was more or less a long on-sides kicks, and it gave the Cats great field position inside the 10-yard line. It did not take long for the Cats to convert the East Tennessee mistake into seven points. When the Bucs finally got their hands on the ball, they could not manage a first down against a fired-up Western defense. When ETSU tried to punt the ball though, lands sakes, a Catamount player seeped through the Buccaneer line and blocked the punt. This set up Western's third touchdown in the first quarter. Unfortunately, it was Western's last touchdown of the game. While Western Carolina failed to add to their 21-0 lead. East Tennessee aroused themselves enough to score two touchdowns and hold the Western offense in check. The Cats moved the ball well, but when they got down near scoring range, mistakes took over. Dean Biasucci missed two field goals and Ronnie Mixon threw an interception in the end zone. Western managed to get two points out of the play though, as the ETSU player who made the interception tried to run the ball out of the end zone. He was belted by a Western player and dropped the football. Unfortunately, another East Tennessee player fell on the ball, which gave the Cats two points. Whoever was not waiting in the concession line at halftime got to see the death of a Western Carolina lead. East Tennessee took control in the second half as they scored 20 unanswered points and limited the Cats to 20 yards in offense in the third period. The Catamount offense remained ineffective through the fourth quarteras the tough Buccaneer defense closed the door on Melvin Dorsey and others. The result was another defeat for Western Carolina, whose season record dropped to 1-6. photos by Doug ( ivanah Mon - Thurs 11 a.m. -9 p.m. CJattcjelo's ITALIAN CUISINE & STEAK HOUSE Welcomesall WCUstudents Italian Dishes, Pizzas and Steaks Fri - Sat. 11 a.m. -11 p.m. • W.N.C.'s finest salad and cheese bar • complete wine list • Draft beverages • Brown bagging permitted • Complete carry out orders Italian Cuisine, Steaks, Seafood, Pizza, and cozy fireside dancing with entertainment on weekends.
