How have these changes affected your sound and your teamwork? Goble: Almost all our personnel changes have made the band progressively better. Derek, Beeb, and myself have been together about ten years. When we do make changes, we usually do so because of personality conflicts within the group. It's all a matter of survival. Of course, we choose new guys on musical ability, but we also base our decisions on their willingness to work together and their desire to make our kind of music. Like I said, each change has been a step up. For example, our former lead guitar David Briggs was good, but Steve Houston is in another league altogether. WC: What about your new producer George Martin? How has he fitted in? Goble: We decided on Martin after a search for a new producer. We picked him for his experience and his arranging ability, and also because he was a former producer of the Beatles and we're all Beatles freaks. The sound we got from Martin wasn't as contemporary as we had expected, but he added a new vitality to our sound. He has become just another team member adding ideas in the studio. WC: I realize that "Time Exposure" just came out a few weeks ago, but are there plans in the works yet for another LP? Goble: As a matter of fact, we already have plans for two new albums. Thirty good songs are already written, and I think that five or six are better than anything on "Time Exposure." We like to turn out about one album a year because we're very into recording. Goble also made comment on the faclities we have in Cullowhee. He said the band agreed in their opinions that Reid Gym is no place for concerts. According to Goble, "...this hall is terrible accoustically because everything bounces around so much. You could really use a new concert hall. 1 will say though, your people are great. We had fun." Enough said. by Umm Hunt This is one of several paintings by Karen Jean Stinnett now on display at Chelsea Gallery. Stinnett is a graduate of Western and has been teaching art in Atlanta the past few years. She has recently returned from Washington D.C., where she was born. The exhibit will be on display through November 13.
