  • Homecoming 1981 photos by Mark Haskett and Doug Cavanah. Parade A Plus This year's Homecoming Parade went off without a hitch once more, thanks to the combined efforts of Sue MacDougall. Randy Rice, and Sue Fields, members of the Homecoming Committee who put it all together. Ms. MacDougall and Ms. Fields took charge of behind-the- scenes organizing: inviting off-campus entries such as high school bands and the Jackson County Wagon Train, , contracting judges, etc. Mr. Rice handled the parade-day arrangements by directing the line-up of the entries. Last Minute Productions assisted in soliciting the support and participation of the campus organizations, and a needed hand was also given by the University Players who met with Sue MacDougall early Saturday morning at the Little Theater to blow up balloons. They dressed in costumes and were interspersed throughout the parade, handing out these ballons to the spectators. All entries were aimed toward the theme of Homecoming 1981—"Cat Pride: Fine Since '89." Judges looked for floats which were fresh and eye-catching, but which also preserved a sense of history. Awards were given in four catagories: the Chancellor's Award went to the Hill Area's entry. Best Club/ Organization went to the entry from the Student Council for Exceptional Children. Best Fraternity went to Lamba Chi'sentry, and there was a tie for the Best Sorority Award between the entries of Zeta Tau Alpha and Delta Zeta. Judging the Homecoming Parade were Ms. MacDougall, Ms. Ruth Schuler of the Chancellor's Office, and Dr. James Dooley of Development and Special Services. All thejudgesagreed that theturn-out of participants in this year's parade was larger than usual, especially in the amount of bands. They also agreed that the only dilemma of the morning was choosing the winners! by Rose Prjtchard Watkins Crowned Miss Cathy Watkins was crowned Homecoming Queen 1981 in halftime ceremonies at WCU's football game vs. East Tenn.
