Dinner theatre The Jack Heifner comedy, "Vanities," will be the next offering in WCU's schedule of theatrical productions. The three-act play will be presented Jan. 29-30 as a dinner theatre production in the Grandroom of the UC. The buffet line will open at 6 p.m., and curtain time is 7:30 p.m. The play looks at the fortunes of three pretty southern girls at three stages in their lives—as high school cheerleaders in 1963, as college seniors and sorority sisters in 1968, and as 28-year-olds in 1974. The girls are played by Tish Merrill of Gastonia, Sherry Hodge of Charlotte, and Cynthia Sanford of Raleigh. Director will be Donald Loeffler, head of the WCU department of speech and theatre arts. Karen Rimmer of Greensboro will be assistant director. The buffet menu will include shrimp salad, prime rib, baked potato, bread, cobbler, and coffee or tea. Ticket prices are $5 for students, $8 for non-students, and $1.50 for children. Reservations are available by calling the WCU department of speech and theatre arts at 227-7491. AP0 blood drive Alpha Phi Omega will sponsor a visit by the Red Cross Bloodmobile January 24 and 25, from noon till 5 p.m. at the University Center. The Bloodmobile regularly visits the WCU campus to collect blood for patients in Sylva's C. J. Harris Community Hospital and 37 other regional hospitals served by the Asheville Regional Red Cross Blood Center. In each visit, the health of the donor and the needs of the blood recipient are the primary concern. "The entire donation procedure only takes about 45 minutes from start to finish, with the actual donation time taking only seven minutes," states Larry Pate of the Asheville center. "The remainder of the time is occupied by taking the donor's medical history, temperature, blood pressure, performing a hemoglobin test, a short rest period and serving light refreshments," he explains. Pate notes that while one unit of whole blood is still sometimes used for only one patient, blood is more frequently separated into red cells, platelets, fresh frozen plasma and cryoprecipitates and used to treat as many as four different patients. Children to be served are identified by the Jackson County Department of Social Services, which certifies their eligibility.
