Dr0 Richard Bruce, of the Biology Department, Dr, Elkan is the third candidate the Search Committee has invited to visit the campus in the last three weeks. After receivinghisBA degree from Brigham Young, Dr, Elkan was granted a MS by Penn State, and PhDby Virginia Polytechnic Institute. He has been at NCSU since 1958 and has published over 40 papers in the area of microbial physiology and metabolism and the physiology of symbiotic nitrogen fixing biology, Dr, Elkan has membership in numerous professional so- iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiniiiniiiiiiiiniiiiiiiiiiiiiHiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiniiiiii iiiiniiiiiiiiiiiiin * Winter streaking . . . experience of streaking, the fad of running nude that had at that time only started, That streak went without incident and made for a nice human interest story, However, a fire had been started in Cullowhee and three days later 140 nude men and women ran across campus attheurg- , . . from page 1 ing of streak organizer Rick "Turkey" Hall, Cullowhee immediately became the focal point for national attention as it claimed the largest mass streak ever. But that record fell quickly into the hands of UNC-Chapel Hill, and streaking soon lost its novelty. . . Spring elections • • Spring quarter came too early for nearly everyone, but when it did come Cullowhee faced most of the problems it had delayed from the previous quarter. The tenure question lingered on as the local AFT made threatening noises about legal action. Meanwhile The Western Carolinian appeared with a new editor, Jim Barden, after Alice Harrill resigned at the beginning of the quarter. Dr, Hugh McEniry died on March 15. CIRUNA presented a three- day symposium on the world food crisis that drew small crowds despite its timely- topic, Faculty malcontents also staged a campaign to vote down proposals in the faculty constitution put forward by Harold Robinson, They were successful, Election time came again for the student government association and vhe senate acted again with indecision. Wardell Townsend was tossed off the presidential ballot. In a run - off election Donna Clemmer beat out Jim Divid- son by a vote of 659 to 462, Roland Johnson won the vice presidential race over Charles Mackie 588 to 565. In the election for editor of the Western Carolinian, Dwight Sparks beat out challenger Bill Drury 410 to 409.
