  • PAGE 4/THE WESTERN CAROLINIAN/NOVEMBER 16, 1978 Carolinian concert review Sailing their way into WCU Pablo Cruise electrifies crowd by CHIP HAMMOND Staff Writer The surf was definitely up last night in Reid Gym as Pablo Cruise sailed their way in to the heads and hearts stage talk Dave Jenkins, lead guitar and vocals, he loved the audience, especially the sexy women up front. "They were real receptive," he said. The band was certainly well anchored in by the second half of their set as they treated the crowd to a 'You drive to the airport you drive out to your plane, you get out of your rent-a-car and then you look at your Lear let.' Dave Jenkins Bazoombas Dave Jenldns explains to staff writer Chip Hammond how a certain young lady caught his attention at the concert laat night... of a high-energy crew of happy listeners. The band's sound swayed like palm trees in the wind: one moment it was slow and melodic, the next moment—as if hit by a gale wind—it was driving and gusty. Pablo Cruise began their set with a boom, playing the title cut from their fourth and latest album, Worlds Away. The band first introduced to a very excited audience some less-heard-of-but-nonetheless—very- good songs mainly from their last two LP's. The double encore included an exciting reproduction of their instrumental from their Lifeline album, "Zero to Sixty inFive," which begins with very slow and melodic piano runs by Cory Lerios and suddenly transforms into a fast-paced semi-jazz number with leads alternating between Lerios, Jenkins, and bassist Bruce Day. The second part of their encore was a samba/reggae number about the partying capital of South America, Rio de Janeiro. Backstage the band members are very light-hearted entertaining personalities; very good-humored indeed considering they've been touring around the country almost non-stop since last February. "It's pretty amazing for me to see a year go by like this. I don't even remember the months, it's just a string of days," said Day.
