In this letter of May 23, 1898, W. A. Lewis writes Horace Kephart to let him know that he saw his notice in the publication "Shooting and Fishing" and would like to join his company of Sharpshooters.

#20 Division St. Norwich N.Y. May 23-98 Mr. George Kephart St. Louis Mo. Dear Sir When in NY City some 2 weeks ago saw Mr. A. C. Gould Editor Shooting and Fishing and he said you were oran ising a company of Sharp- shooters and I see by S and F you have organized. When you get ready to start for the front would like to join your company. I have had quite an experience in hunting and Target Practice with telescope and think could pass your examination Hoping to hear from you soon. Respect W. A. Lewis
