  • In a letter to Horace Kephart on December 19, 1928, Arno B. Cammerer (1883-1941) writes from the Department of the Interior to tell Kephart he read “Afoot and Awing in the Great Smokies” in “Field & Stream” and hopes to read more from him.
  • OFFICE OF THE DIRECTOR DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIOR NATIONAL PARK SERVICE Washington December 19, 1928. Mr. Horace Kephart, Bryson City, North Carolina. Dear friend Kephart: I finished last night reading your most interesting article "Afoot and Awing in the Great Smokies'* in the last number of Field and Stream." I enjoyed it very much. I should like to see more articles from your pen, especially on some of the details of the area which you know so well. The country is hungry for accurate and frank information from a reliable source and you are certainly the man to give it in humanly interesting form. Sincerely yours, ARNO B. CAMMEREB. Acting Director.
