Amy’s story “Ice Cream and Bows & Arrows” begins the show, and it is about her and her siblings having their tonsils taken out as children. The story is accompanied by “To the Lamb” by David Bauer. On Creative Corner, Doreyl talks with Elise King, who is a music education and clarinet student at Western Carolina University. She talks about her musical background and her life as a student and her professional plans. The interview is followed by “Almost Like Being in Love” performed by the Western Carolina University Jazz Ensemble. Amy’s guest on Stories of Mountain Folk is Mary Messer of Waynesville. She owns a bookstore in Waynesville and recently wrote a book called Moonshiner’s Daughter, which is about her difficult early life and childhood, and she talks about some of the things in the book and also talks about how her life has turned out well in spite of what happened to her as a child. “I’ve Got Something to Praise God For” by the Barnes Family follows the interview. An interview from June 2009 with Joy Phillips Hoyle is then replayed. The interview is followed by “There’s a Song in the Air” by Ron Smith. On Down Another Road, Judy and her mother visit Jean Rhodes Carter, who is Judy’s aunt. Jean shares a story she wrote called “And We Never Stopped Singing,” which is about her childhood on Avery’s Creek, near Asheville. The interview is followed by “Jesus is All the World to Me” performed by Jean and her sister Louise and “Shady Grove” by Clover. The show ends with “Hard Times” by Dirk Powell & Tim O’Brien.
