  • Amy begins the show with her story “Overalls and Rainbow Trout,” which is about her father and Aunt Lillie fishing for rainbow trout in the Tuckasegee River. The story is followed by “Old Gravel Road” by the Rye Holler Boys. On Creative Corner, Doreyl continues her conversation with Heather Gordon of the Jackson County 4-H. She talks about upcoming events that are being hosted by 4-H in Jackson County, with emphasis on the mountain youth talent contest at the Greening Up the Mountains Festival in Sylva. She also talks about the Junior Appalachians Musicians group, which teaches children traditional Appalachian instruments and music. “Dueling Banjos” by the Ross Brothers follows the interview. Amy’s guest on Stories of Mountain Folk is Sona Norton of Cashiers. Norton discusses her genealogy and her family’s roots in the Cashiers area, as well as the importance of family heritage. The interview is followed by “A Horse Named Cash” by Milan Miller. This is followed by a March 2009 interview with Stedman Mitchell, who discusses farming and planting. The interview is followed by “Born to Sing” by Betty Brown, and the show ends with “In the Country” by Chrystal Deitz.
