  • (2) from home. Hope that you don’t mind this kind of a letter, but I have that feeling that steam has to be let off and I hope you don’t mind being the victim this time. Last night I let off on the Yugos to the folks. Now to the more pleasant side of life. Two weeks ago I went on a river cruise up the Rhine river. It was an unfor- getable experience. The scenery was breath- taking and the feeling of being away from the monotony of the Co. was a relief. We sailed up to a steep gorge surmounted by tall cliffs with castles on top of them. The atmosphere on the boat was pleasant, too. ---- especially the meals. They were served and the table had a cloth on it. The pictures I took can explain better than I the countryside. Got a note from the Alumni Asc. of Taft High the other day inviting me to a reunino [sic] of the classes to be held on Sept. 6, 1946 at Rand Park which is only about 4500 miles from here and 10 from the house. I wrote a replay and the Capt had promised me a 72 hour pass that time. I’d give anything to go. Think that I’ll call up my friend in VIENNA tonight. The last time I tried it it only took about 10 minutes to get the call through. He is the fella I have been with from Graduation to Bamberg. He gets out on the same day that I do. Mom’s and Dad’s Anniv. is the 14th of the month and it is an Anniv. for me too. On that day I’ll have exactly six months left. Here is the end of the sheet so I’ll sign off for now. Love, Roy [handwritten in blue pen]
