embroidered net waist. I think it is beautiful. Well, I began this letter on the first day of April and I'll try to finish to-night. Mr. and Mrs. Simmons are gone to church and I'm by myself. Terrell won't be in until nine o'clock. They go to church quite often and I stay to fix his supper. I don't like to be gone when he gets home tired out with his long day's work. I'm afraid to stay by myself tho. I just know that something will get me every minute; but it hasn't yet. Terrell was off Friday afternoon. We left here at four

In this letter of April 1, 1909, Alice (Clara Alice McGuire Bird) writes to her sister-in-law Minnie Bird (later McLaughlin) about life in Los Angeles, California. Mrs. Bird describes shopping, warm weather, and clothing. She advises Minnie to attend commencement and visit her in the future. Alice married Minnie's brother James Terrell Bird in 1907.
