  • bers attend this banquet and participate in the election of officers for 1931. Give serious thought to the selection of hikers to direct the affairs of the club for the coming year. There will be a nominating committee, but nominations from the floor are always in order, and are genuinely invited in the Hiking Club. Those who have attended our banquets at the famous old Montvale Springs Hotel will want to be there again this year. In addition to the generous and appetizing table, there will be a stunt program, an informal report of the year's activities and a forecast of the program for the next year. It will be the most important meeting of the year, and there will be plenty of fun to liven things up. It will be a good idea to have as many prospective members present as possible. Those who must, may return home after the election, but all are urged to remain for the morrow's hike. Any who can not attend the banquet but who desire to make the hike, should reach the hotel not later than 9 o'clock Sunday morning (Oct. 5). The hike is 3 miles each way, but the trail is gentle and easy. Any hiker can make it easily, and the view from Look Rock is a fitting reward for the climb. To the south, we look across Happy Valley and get an unusually fine view of Gregory Bald, and Thunderhead may also be seen. To the north, there is a charming view of the East Tennessee valleys. Go down the mountain-side a short distance to the south, and you can see Mt. LeConte in the distance to the east. Leave Saunders System at 5:30 Saturday afternoon. Take food for Sunday dinner (or you can have it packed at the hotel). Round trip hiking distance 6 miles. Trail smooth and easy. Elevation 2500 feet. Approximate cost: transportation $1.25; banquet $1.00; lodging and breakfast $1.50; lunch to take on hike (if desired) 50 cents. Leaders: Bess Geagley (Phone 2—2103) and Alma Shipe (Phone 6—1517). 54
