  • dence which indicates that the environs of our Highlands is where a flora and a fauna were evolved that have come to populate the greater part of eastern North America. Marvelous sunsets, even more marvelous sunrises, cloud pictures, and unequalled vistas are ours to see; and we have learned really to "see" what we look at. Whether disciples of Isaac Walton or not, we revel in the charm of clear waters, splendid cascades and dashing water-falls; wondering the while what the great river looked like in days long before Conservation engaged the imagination of any man. Hiking with its "peopled memories", its environment and its leadership, will help you to have a Happy New Year. And let us thankfully admit that we can walk many a mile without a single Camel in sight. H. M. JENNISON, President of the Club for 1930 "Have you ever slept in the open 'Tired from a long day's tramp; I hen just as the day is dawning, And lie on your bed awake, With only the trees as an awning, As still and as calm as the lake? For even the birds are silent Asleep in their lonely nest; A silence that God alone has scut To sweeten and deepen our rest." —II'. C. Shewmon
