  • MAY 21 BOTANY FIELD TRIP-EKANEETLEE CREEK One of the major objectives of this hike is to make the acquaintance of some of the headliners in Nature's floral show. Questions may be asked by the "class" but not by the leaders. Suggested questions—Are interesting facts about nature to be found elsewhere than in syndicated newspaper copy? Answer: This question cannot be settled by argument. In fact, about the only way to learn the answer is to take a chance with catching spring fever and shake a leg with ye Leaders on this 21st day in the merrie month of May. Be assured in advance that the undersigned will have gone over the route in order to pull up or bury all plants not known to them. The symbol "X" will mark the spot (s). And woe is me if any one gets out ahead and finds something that is not supposed to be found! In order to head off ambitious tricksters, of a kind, we hereby declare our lack of interest in a destination. However, for the sake of those who come to go, we readily admit that Ekaneetlee Gap is the place. As for a starting point; having begun by leaving Knoxville, it is suggested that we meet at Willie Myers' place at the upper end of Cades Cove about 10:00 a. m. of the same day. If you-all don't know the way, you had better follow the leaders over the mountain and across the cove. Having rea, ched our appointed meeting place you may wish to trade your motor transportation for a pair of Seven League Boots,—or park it in the creek—and see if we care! Meanwhile, the rest of us will mount Shanks Mare and take up Ekaneetlee Creek; and having performed that simple feat, we'll take a look at the big poplars up "yan" way a piece. May- 32
