  • April the 24 /63 Camp Gregg near Guiney Station, Va. Dear friends A few lines this morning to you to inform you of the changes since my last letter. I am in good health at this time. I have had no sickness since I came to camp, on the contrary I have mended, for it is admitted in the company that I can eat as much mule as any of the company. Today is windy and cold. I was on picket yesterday. It rained all day. Late yesterday evening the news reached camp that the Yankies was crossing the river down at Portroil and had landed 4,000 and had three hundred boats busily engaged in landing. Portroil is 20 miles below this place. I han't much confidence in the report. It is hard to ascertain when there will be a fight here. The future is very misty and hard to fathom. Time and nothing else will develop all things.
