  • My esteemed friend Mrs. Slagle: - Oct. 15 – 26. How glad I am to hear from you, It seems as if I am being greeted by a dear friend that I have known all of my life. I of course know why it is, it is your great spirit, the spirit of Jesus Christ which shines through, as your letters always indicate and your picture also, as well as the dear, dear boy “Dick”. I am glad you received the bottle of Penol. I hope you will not have occasion to use it but if such an emergency should happen I wanted to have it there so you could use it at once. It does my very heart good to know that you are feeling so well, and that all the family share in it. I was so in hopes that dear “Dick” was home by this time, I too have been feeling very uneasy about him.
