  • ■Vaynesville.H.C. May 21st,1953, Mr.Zebulon 7/eaver, Washington D.C. Copyrighted Material Western Carolina University My Dear Zeb. Hunter Library I received your letter several days ago also the map. ffish to thank you for both. T note with a great deal of concern the obstacles that may be in the way of getting your provision for nark funds through. However,it may be,that owing to the extreme situation, these matters can be ironed out. 7e have just suffered a considerable reverse on account of not heving the fundc with which to clear up the Suncrest metter. Mr.Stevens.their president refused to sign release permitting the government to go upon the property with one of the labor campe. As a consequence,we will have but one in this end of the park, and that is Big Creek. That virtually means that Haywood County will not reap any of the benefits that might accrue, since.the Big Creek camp will be supplied from Newport. I am inclosing yon. a clipping from todays paper relative t o the matter. .uast week when this situation developed,I v/anted very much to get some backing and wire the Governor and tell him that we just had to have the $500,000.00 to clear up the Suncrest Matter, and so make the camp in that area possible, but I got very little encouragement in that idea. So,I recon its all off. Just since beginning this letter ,^r. -.Yill Hyatt $# Chairmsn of Haywood Commissioners, eame in and talked with me on the matter of the Suncrest camp. Says he is going to interview Mr.P.obinson of the Champion Fibre Co.tomorrow and see if they may not yet brimgg iVir.Stevens around to view the. matter in a different light. Yours very truly, II. C . "lilburn.
