  • February 16, 1995 Western Carolinian 7 Features Attention Rock Fans! Jon Rush Staff Reporter ATTENTION ALL ROCK FANS! Last Minute Productions has acknowledged the overflow of country concerts at the Ramsey Center, and wants to set things straight. Bill Clarke of LMP came to the general staff meeting at WWCU last Tuesday to speak about the lack of rock concerts at WCU. He also wanted to clear up a misconception about LMP's involvement with all of the current country acts that have come through WCU. Apparently the couptry acts were the doings of independent promoters, not LMP. Clark had a sheet of paper with various bands that he may be able to bring to the Ramsey Center. After naming of about six or seven artists (including Tracy Chapman and Lucious Jackson), two were decided on. Clarke will attempt to get either Veruca Salt, the new and hot alternative group, or 311, the funk/ reggae/rap/rock group from California. Mexican Violinist, Venezuelan Pianist Support WCU Music Friends Violinist Adrian Justus of Mexico and pianist Elena Abend of Venezuela will present a guest recital Sunday, Feb. 26, at Western Carolina University. Justus and Abend will perform a program of classical violin and piano music beginning at 3 pm in the recital hall of the Coulter Building. The recital also will kick off a membership drive for the newly formed University Music Friends, an organization designed to help secure additional scholarship funds for WCU music students. Justus performs frequently in concerts throughout Mexico, both as soloist and chamber musician, and he has performed in Japan, Czechoslovakia, Israel, England, Costa Rica and the United States. He has recorded with the Philharmonic Orchestra of Queretaro and the London Philharmonic Orchestra. Abend, a native of Caracas, Venezuela, is a regular soloist in Venezuela, where she has performed with the Venezuela, Maracaibo and Municipal symphonies, the National Philharmonic, and the Solistas. In the United States, she has performed with the University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee Symphony, Green Bay (Wise.) Symphony and the Orchestra of the Philadelphia Academy of Music. Justus will be on the WCU campus Feb. 24 through March 3, and will be meeting with music faculty and students.
