Or is it a new form of hopscotch? No, I bet it's that word German people say after someone sneezes, "Co-op you." Guess again. Co-op stands for Cooperative Education, a college sponsored program designed to give students an opportunity to gain work- related experience, while earning money. The CAP Center provides co-op workshops each week to brief students about the opportunities one gains from acquiring a co-op and the requirements for obtaining a co-op. Susie Ray, Director of the WCU Co-op program, stated that "the program has grown considerably since it was founded in 1978." A significant number of graduated students have participated in the co-op program semester, 17% of the graduating senioi participated in co-op. When asked how many gradua students are hired by their co-op env ployer, Ray stated, "Nationally, about 40%. Others have strong resumes that give them a competitive edge in the jobl market." The co-op workshops are held on alternating Mondays and Tuesdays froi 4:00-5:00pm, located in room 50 McKee Sign up sheets are outside 80 McKee. Michelle Parparian, a junior in English, attended last week's co-op workshop. Parparian indicated after attending, "I can certainly see howco-flj can help out with job opportunities and the CAP Center is more than willing to help us find a co-op job."
