Bad Girls and Drillers All-Campus Softball Champions October 20, 1994 Tony Castleberry Staff Reporter Intramural softball playoffs were in full swing this year with a total of 32 men and women's teams competing for All-Campus Championships. An interesting match up surfaced in the women's division. The championship game pitted the Bad Girls against Cold Chillin'. These teams met earlier in the playoffs and the Bad Girls won 9-7. Cold Chillin' fought their way back to the championship game by crushing the Toppers 15-4. Nevertheless, their hopes to win it all vanished as the Bad Girls prevailed 10-1 in the final game. Of the 22 teams that made the playoffs in the men's division, two seemed to stand above the rest: Kappa Alpha from the Universal League and the Drillers from the Galaxy League. KA advanced to the championship game by defeating Southern Comfort 8-7. The Drillers moved on by beating Hooterville Express, who had three teams in the playoffs. After a close 11-9 victory over Hooterville in an earlier round, the Drillers weren't going to be denied their chance to play KA for the championship and beat Hooterville easily, 13-0. So the stage was set for the All- Campus Finals: Drillers versus KA, best two out of three games. The Drillers won the first game easily 15-8, but KA played brilliantly in the second, holding the Mighty Drillers to only four runs and won 5-4. The two teams met Monday, October 10, to play one game for all the marbles. The Drillers rose to the occasion and defeated KA 11-4 to win the All-Campus Championship. Congratulations to all the teams that participated in intramural softball this year and a special shout out to Bad Girls and Drillers, the 1994 All Campus Softball Champions. Lynn's Hike of the Week The Cullowhee Cliffs has one of the most beautiful overlooks in the area. It allows a view of Lake Glenville and the many mountains and valleys. This is a more secluded, un-populated attraction in these mountains but it is well worth the effort to locate. From Cullowhee one would turn left out of WCU's main entrance onto HWY 107. Take a left at traffic light onto Speedwell Road. Then stay on Speedwell until you hit the gravel and it's your third driveway on the left. There is a white pole there. Once you turn onto the road the upkeep seems to disappear and your shocks will get their money's worth. A four wheel drive is perfect but even a VW Golf can make the trek. When you get to what looks like the end of the earth where the land drops off, You are there. Helpful hints: This is a place to sit and contemplate, talk with close friends, have a picnic, or just take a peaceful nap for a few hours. If you are looking for somewhere to take your parents, the Cliffs are perfect. As far as hiking goes, there are trails here and there, to get down into the valley, but it is very steap and should not be approached without the proper climbing (belay roping) equipment. •MEN'S INTRMURAL TABLE TENNIS "SINGLES" AND "DOUBLES"* Held at 6:30 in Reid GYM Dance Studio.
