Ever get tired of listening to people moan and groan about the problems in society—the ones who seem especially good at dictating causes and cures without ever leaving their chairs? Unfortunately we seem surrounded by self-proclaimed experts on homelessness, poverty, sexually transmitted diseases, and alcohol abuse. What about the ones who are apt to complain that something needs to be done, yet aren't willing to do anything? It's the politicians, they maintain. They should do more. Always someone else, someone else, someone else. Well, I'm here to talk to you about Gamma S igma S igma, a new kind of sorority here on campus. We're coed so that means guys can join us too. Over a century ago Henry David Thoreau said cast your vote not only in paper, but in action. With nearly four decades of history rooted firmly in action aimed at addressing issues and problems facing our society, we have made a marked impact in areas such as literacy, youth prevention and substance abuse. Today, in chapters all across America, Gamma Sigma Sigma is bringing its sights to bear on these dilemmas and more. We are organizing fundraisers for medical research, implementing highway clean-ups, and feeding the hungry right here in North Carolina. If you are interested in making a difference in the community please come to our rush on Monday, September 14, in room 103 of the Music-English building anytime between 8:30 and 9:30pm. Our policies are nondiscriminatory and anyone is welcome.
